ABOUT GIVINGTUESDAY
GivingTuesday is a global giving movement that has been built by individuals, families, organizations, businesses and communities in all 50 states and in countries around the world. GivingTuesday harnesses the collective power of a unique blend of partners to transform how people think about, talk about, and participate in the giving season. It inspires people to take collective action to improve their communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they believe in, and help create a better world. GivingTuesday demonstrates how every act of generosity counts, and that they mean even more when we give together. Learn more at www.givingtuesday.org

The Columbia County Historical Society is calling on community donors to help "keep history alive" this #GivingTuesday, December 1, 2021.

More than 80 percent of the organization's operating income is created by members and individual donors. This year's GivingTuesday drive comes during the ongoing pandemic, which has impacted revenues for many nonprofit organizations as well as for CCHS, the largest historical society in the region.

"History helps us develop better solutions, by examining past results--successful and otherwise; history inspires us to meet the many complex challenges we face today. GivingTuesday is an easy and safe way for the community to support our programming and our mission," said Lori Yarotsky, executive director of CCHS.

Founded in 2012, GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. Held annually the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, it provides an online stage as a philanthropic alternative to Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Past GivingTuesday initiatives by CCHS include successful match campaigns in 2017 and 2018 which fully funded 'Day of History' field trips for County fourth-graders.

Due to current public health restraints, CCHS has shifted its focus to virtual public programming to fill gaps left by temporary closures. This spring, CCHS adapted its 'Day of History' program for virtual learning, making online lesson plans available for teachers and parents. CCHS also launched the successful 'Drive Through History' program this summer as a way to keep residents and visitors connected to County history and historical places in a safe, socially distanced way.

“Our mission is to collect, preserve, interpret and share the history, heritage and culture of Columbia County, New York," said Lori Yarotsky, executive director of CCHS. "The generosity of individual donors can empower us to fulfill that mission for generations to come."

Columbia County Historical Society (CCHS) is a nonprofit organization under Internal Revenue Service code 501(c)(3). All contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
