LEGACIES, BEQUESTS, and PLANNED GIVING
Make a valuable contribution to the Columbia County Historical Society with no out-of-pocket expense — and get tax benefits, too!
We offer a number of Planned Giving strategies, all of which benefit both you and the Columbia County Historical Society.

How Planned Giving Helps The Columbia County Historical Society

Remember Columbia County Historical Society in your estate planning. Your financial advisor can help you determine what means are best for you (bequests or charitable lead and remainder trusts, insurance policies, or retirement plans and IRAs).

Unlike repeating fundraising cycles of Membership and Annual Fund campaigns, Planned Giving donations over time help us achieve financial independence and self-sufficiency.  Property Bequests  enrich our collections and enhance our public exhibitions.
There are many ways to make a planned gift, including:

WILLS AND TESTAMENTS
  • Percentage Bequest: A percentage of the donor’s estate is left to CCHS
  • Specific Bequest: A specific dollar amount is left to CCHS
  • Property Bequest: An important object or fine collection of Columbia County objects and/or paintings are left to CCHS
  • Charitable Lead and Remainder Trusts, IRAs, retirement plans etc are left to CCHS

YOUR IRA GIFT via Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
  • As you plan your year-end giving, you may consider making a gift from your IRA directly to the Columbia County Historical Society
  • Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is an otherwise taxable distribution from an IRA (other than an ongoing SEP or SIMPLE IRA) owned by an individual who is age 70½ or over that is paid directly from the IRA to a qualified charity, such as the Columbia County Historical Society
  • For those age 70½ or older, an IRA 'Charitable Rollover Gift' can help satisfy your required minimum distribution
  • For those age 70½ or older, an IRA 'Charitable Rollover Gift' can Reduce your taxable income, while furthering the work and Mission of CCHS
  • QCD gifts are required to come directly from your plan administrator to Columbia County Historical Society.
  • Donor advised funds are excluded from receiving QCDs.
  • Maximum IRA charitable rollover gift is $100,000 per year
  • We urge you to consult your financial or tax advisor, as individual tax situations are always unique

For more information on planned giving, please contact our Executive Director at 518 758 9265 or director @ cchsny.org.
CCHS will not share or sell a donor's personal information with any other party, nor send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations.
