Delft Ware from the CCHS Collection—
Blue & White, Manganese, Polychrome Delft from the CCHS Permanent Collection. Skilled artistry of Dutch potters created their own style of pottery leading to an extensive range of tableware, vases, figurines, birdcages and tiles. Although Delftware reached its peak period from 1670 – 1730, it continued to be desirable and emulated throughout Europe well into the 19th century.

CCHS collections include the popular blue and white Delft as well as polychrome and manganese Delftware and tiles.

The exhibit is housed in the North Room of the Luykas Van Alen House  and is installed within two New York Dutch Colonial Corner Cupboards, also from the permanent collection.

This exhibition is a semi-permanent installation.

Cased Photos from the CCHS Collection—

Silvered glass and mercury vapor photographs were among the earliest form of photography available to the public, and their popularity endured for several decades from 1840 to the late 1850s. Images produced with this method were each unique, as no negative or positive template is created in the process.

The mirror-like silver surfaces were protected by a glass top layer and usually encased within small, ornamented cases of embossed leather, velvet and presented in gilt brass mats, A rich alternative was black-lacquered cases ornamented with decorative patterns created by mother of pearl inlays.

This exhibit will be installed in the small gallery adjunct to the Museum's upstairs gallery.
